For rounds 6-9, I count 54 DCs, so that when I do Round 10 with the DC DEC, 8 DC, five times, I am left with with 2 extra DC. Am I counting wrong.? I am eager to finish this lovely hat for my granddaughter, but I am stuck. Thank you for your help
Corina says
Make sure you are joining the end of the round to the top of the DEC DC and not the CH 2. I havent looked at the pattern right now, but I do know one of the rounds say there will be an extra, and then the next round it evens back out. Its been so long since I made this. Hope I helped.
Keri from SC says
Just wanted to let you know I made this for my 8 year old. She loves it! My 2 year old threw a fit for one, too so looks like I’ll be making a toddler one, too! ๐ Will have to figure out how to do that and let you know! ๐
Sheila says
Am i working in a spiral or am i supposed to join each round.
Corina says
You will need to join at the end of each round that says “Join at the top of Ch 3”
Sheila says
So thats rounds 1 & 2 & the rest is done as a spiral is that correct
Corina says
They all join at the end of the round.
Nancy says
Can you give me the gauge that is used for this hat? Just want to make sure it fits my 6 yr old granddaughter. Thankyou, Nancy
Corina says
Well, I didnt measure gage.. but the hat fit from 3 year old to even adults so I bet you will be okay ๐
Selena says
I am so going to make this for my 12 yr old ๐ she has been wanting 1 for a little while…and all the credit for the turn out of the hat will go to Corina @ Stitch11 !!!
Ashley says
Hi! This is such a beautiful hat! I have attempted this pattern twice and I have a few questions…The first attempt I followed your pattern to a T, I used your DC DEC but the hat just seemed to get bigger, when you say Insert hook in next stitch, are you actually skipping a stitch? And are you not joining at the end of each round on rows 3-6, they don’t say to? On my second attempt I used the traditional way to DC DEC and finished the hat but it was too small for my 4 year olds head. I know its a lot of questions but I figured I better ask before the third attempt :-p
Corina says
I am going to look over the pattern asap but I will go ahead and answer a few of your questions. You do join at the end of each row. If you skip a stitch, I will say to skip a stitch. When it says to crochet into the next stitch, you crochet into the next stitch.
I have had many people use my adult slouchy hat pattern to make a childs slouchy hat. But instead of using homespun yarn, they used yarn like, I Love This Yarn, and also Red Heart Love. And I have heard it works up perfect http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/lovely-lady-slouch-hat
Ashley says
Thank you so much for the quick response! I’m sure I’m doing something wrong lol
Corina says
When you do you decrease DC at the start of a round.. make sure when joining, you join to the top og the decrease and not the CH 2 <3
Emma says
Loved this pattern took me about 4 hours to make. Love it can’t wait to make the flower and finish it up with I could post a picture my little one loved it. Thanks for sharing !!!!!!
Heather L says
I followed this pattern exactly. Even used Simply Soft Yarn. But the bottom won’t even come close to fitting either of my girl’s heads. It’s way too small and they are a very petite 4 year old and not even 3.
Corina says
Maybe you crochet a lot tighter than I do. I would use a larger hook next time. Sorry your having problems.
Terri says
Found your pattern on interest. So cute, my daughter loves it!!! Thank you
Stefanie says
I made this for my 4 year old in a purple yarn with sparkles – she loved it and it turned out so cute. For those saying it was too snug – I recommend doing te final rows of single crochet very loosely. I had the same problem before I loosened my stitch.
Mia says
How do you modify the pattern to fit an 8 year old’s head? She is a tall kid, if that helps.
Corina says
It should fit an 8 year old just fine.
Mia says
Thank you Corina. Would a worsted wool yarn be okay? Is it medium weight?
Mia says
I am a new to crochet. Is worsted weight considered medium weight?
Corina says
Sometimes.. it depends on the yarn.
Mia says
Oh ok. please disregard the previous question as you have answered it.
The one I have is Rowan pure wool worsted. If this is not ok, would Blackstone Tweed gage 4.5 sts=1″ do? it shows 4.5 (7 US) needles. It looks finer
OR would Patons ColorWul bulky 5 be better? this shows needles size 6.5mm (US 10 1/2)
Corina says
To be honest, I have never worked with either of those yarns. I would have to test them out to know for sure. I also have this slouch hat pattern that works perfect for 8 year olds. You may consider it if it helps you know more of what size yarn you can use. The kind I used for this… I really havent used it ever since :/ so its hard for me to remember exactly how thick it was compared to other yarns. But this one I am linking, most medium weight yarns work wonderfully https://stitch11.com/matching-child-size-slouch-and-fingerless-gloves/
Mia says
Thank you Corina. I appreciate your help. When I look at the girl with this hat the yarn seems to be the same as worsted. I will check the one you just sent me.
Mia says
I asked a couple of questions earlier but I do not see them here. How does this work?
Corina says
I wasn’t online. I had to get offline to cook dinner. Sorry I was available when you needed me.
Mia says
No problem Corine. Thank you
Mia says
I just made this hat with pure wool worsted yarn (Rowan) and used a 6.50MM crochet hook and it turned out perfect! I made my stitches on the loose side and it fits a young child aged 7+ , as well as me! I think I will make one for each female in my family. This is a great accomplishment since I am a new crocheter. Thank you Corine for sharing this beautiful pattern. I would send a photo if I was able to.
Corina says
Yay! Glad it worked out! You can send me a photo on my facebook ๐ https://www.facebook.com/stitch11page
Patti Anderson says
I’m making this hat but I don’t see how the DC Dec is any different than a DC. And when I look up a DC Dec on YouTube it is very different that your directions. Please help. Thank you.
Corina says
With a DC DEC you are making two DC stitches into one stitch.
Mrs. Tepper says
I was trying to make this hat for a 1 year old and everything was going ok until i got to rows 17-22. There is no way that would fit a 1 year old. Can you tell me what I am possible doing wrong! I know I followed the instructions like stated i am not sure why its coming out too small.
Corina says
What kind of yarn are you using? Maybe use a larger hook?
Mrs. Tepper says
The first time I made this pattern i was a little worried it seemed kinda small but after a day of reviewing and re working I found my mistake and the hat came out Perfect!! My daughter looks adorable in it! Thanks for the pattern!
Amanda says
love this pattern. Just started row 10. At the beginning do you chain anything before decreasing or just decrease right from the slip stitch?
TIA ๐
Corina says
Good question! I would CH 2. It’s been awhile since I wrote this one so I will edit it. But yeah, CH 2 but when joining, join to the first stitch.
Terry says
Thanks so much for this pattern! Just made is for my great niece and it’s so cute I’m gonna make a bigger one for myself!
Grisie says
For those of you having issues with the end product being too small i have been able to solve the problem. In the first row of sc do the following sc inc in first stitch sc in second st repeat to end of row. In the next sc rows just sc in each st
Annie says
I have been searching all over for a slouchy hat pattern for a 6 mo. old. I followed your instructions and used a G hook with 4 ply yarn. It turned out perfect! thank you.
Alexis says
My baby girl has asked for this hat and I am loving the design. But my question is how many stitches are supposed to be in each row??? I am officially on the row to decrease (row 10) and I feel like my stitches are WAY off.
Alexis says
My 4 years old has been begging for a slouchy beanie like mine and I said well why not? And I am in love with this pattern. But I think I messed up somewhere in my count or maybe misinterpreted the rows. I got stuck on row 10 due to the sets not lining up with my previous rows. I just want to make sure I am doing this correctly. Do you have a video tutorial or pictures at least? Just to make sure I am not overthinking this?
Alexis says
Sorry for the extra message. I didn’t see it post so I thought I had to recreate it
