When someone orders a special hat from me, I might as well make it a pattern to share with you. This Army Newsboy hat is size 0-3 months. It is really quick and simple to work up. I enjoy making these. With the simple change of colors, adding a stripe, a band with buttons, or a flower, you can create such a large variety of hats. I hope you enjoy making this cozy piece of wearable artwork as much as I do.

Sock Monkey Hat
Who doesn't love Sock Monkeys? Who doesn't love free patterns? Everyone loves these fun hats! This size is perfect for 0-3 month babies. With a simple color change you can create such a variety of styles and looks. Add a Mohawk or a beautiful flower to personalize your creation. Please look for alternatives for buttons on the hats for teething babies though. Better to be safe!

Tea Party Hat
This morning Ella and I walked to a tea party with my sister and my two nieces. I decided to make another sun hat for Ella, to match her outfit. With this hat I used my Peach Happy pattern but instead of using acrylic I used Peaches and Creme Cotton yarn. It turned out soooo adorable!

Hockey Helmet
After searching the web for hockey helmets, I decided to give it a try. This free pattern is for size 12 months. In this picture, my daughter is wearing it and she is 15 months old. Since its made from cotton, it stretches real nice. This is not one of my easiest paterns to follow. So, if anyone has any questions I would be more than happy to help all that I can. With this free pattern, for a size 6-9 month sun hat, I really wanted to show how different the finished product can be. Thank you everyone who tested out my pattern and to Jerri Sparks Photography for taking this beautiful photo. Also, check out the 12-18 month size , toddler size, child, and adult sizes.
6-9 Month Sun Hat Crochet Pattern
Supplies:
4 ply worsted weight yarn ( I think “I Love This Yarn” is what works best for a snug fit but “Peaches and Cream” works better for those bigger heads ;))
5mm (H/8) hook
Abbreviations:
CH – Chain
SC- Single Crochet
HDC – Half Double Crochet
DC – Double Crochet
Round 1: Magic Ring, CH 3, DC 10, pull ring tight, join to top CH of CH 3
Round 2: CH 3, 2 DC each DC around. Join to top CH of CH 3. (20 DC)
Round 3: Ch 3. *2 DC in next DC, DC in next DC, repeat from * around. Join to top CH of CH 3. (30 DC)
Round 4: CH 3. *2 DC in next DC, DC in next 2 DC, repeat from * around. Join to top CH of CH 3. (40 DC)
Round 5: CH 3. *2 DC in next DC, DC in next 3 DC, repeat from * around. Join to top CH of CH 3. (50 DC)
Round 6-10: CH 3, DC in each DC around. Join to top CH of CH 3
Round 11: ~Working in front loop only for this round only~CH 2, *2 HDC in next loop, HDC in next 2 loops, repeat from * around, connect to top of CH 2
Round 12: CH 2 *2 HDC in next stitch, HDC in next 2 stitches, repeat from * around, connect to top of CH 2
Round 13: CH 2*2 HDC in next stitch, HDC in next 4 stitches, repeat from * around, connect to top of CH 2
Round 14: CH 1, SC around, connect to CH 1
I used 7 strands of yarn and weaved them in and out every 2 stitches in row 10. Make sure you leave a little slack so the hat can stretch over the child's head.
