Learning the Magic Circle makes starting hats and a variety of flowers much easier. The first couple times may seem difficult to catch on but you will quickly get the hang of it.

yes!
I like doing this instead of doing the CH2 or CH 3 and joining to form a ring. The magic circle feels so much more secure and in my opinion is much easier to work with.
