Could a Snaggletooth Cyclops newborn hat ever be so cute?? I cant wait to get this on a baby this Halloween for those first pictures. If you use this free crochet pattern for a little monster, I would love to see pictures!!
Supplies
Peaches and Creme Cotton (I used white, light green, dark green and black)
G/6-4.25 Crochet Hook
Cotton for stuffing
Crochet needle
Stitches
CH- Chain
SC – Single Crochet
HDC – Half Double Crochet
DC – Double Crochet
2 SC tog – Single crochet Decrease
Get started!
With Black Yarn
Row 1: Magic Circle,CH 1 10 HDC inside of ring, join to first HDC (10)
Change to inner eye color (I used light green)
Row 2: CH 1, 2 SC in same stitch, 2 single crochet in each remaining stitch around. Join into first SC (20)
Change to outer eye color ( I used dark green)
Row 3: CH 1, SC in same stitch, SC in each remaining stitches around. Join into first SC (20)
Change to white yarn
Row 4: CH 1, 2 SC in same stitch, 1 SC in next stitch. * 2 Single crochet in next stitch, 1 single crochet in the next stitch. Repeat from * around. Join into first SC (30)
Row 5-8: CH 1, SC in same stitch, SC in each remaining stitches around. Join into first SC (30)
Row 9: CH 1, SC 2 tog from the same and next stitch, SC in following stitch.* SC 2 tog, SC in next stitch. Repeat from * around. Join into first SC (20)
Row 10: CH 1, SC in same stitch, SC in each remaining stitches around. Join into first SC (20)
Row 11: CH 1, SC 2 tog from the same and next stitch, *SC 2 tog. Repeat from * around. Join to first SC (10)
Row 12: CH 1, SC in same stitch, SC in each remaining stitches around. Join into first SC
Stuff the eye
Row 13: CH 1, SC 2 tog from the same and next stitch, *SC 2 tog. Repeat from * around. Join to first SC (5)
Finish off
Using Green Yarn
Row 14: Attach yarn into a post of the 13th Row. CH 1, SC into same post, SC into each remaining post of the 13th row. Join into the first SC. (5)
Row 15: CH 1, SC in same stitch, SC into each of the 4 remaining stitches, Join into the first SC. (5)
Row 16: CH 1, 2 SC into same stitch, 2 SC into each of the remaining 4 stitches. Join into the first SC (10)
CH 2 counts as first HDC
Row 17: CH 2, HDC into same stitch, HDC into next stitch. *2 HDC into next stitch, 1 HDC into next stitch. Repeat from * around. Join to top of CH 2. (15)
Row 18: CH 2, HDC into same stitch, HDC into next 2 stitches. *2 HDC into next stitch, HDC into next 2 stitches. Repeat from * around. Join to top of CH 2 (20)
Row 19: CH 2, HDC into same stitch, HDC into next 3 stitches. *2 HDC into next stitch, HDC into next 3 stitches. Repeat from * around. Join to top of CH 2 (25)
Row 20: CH 3, *2 DC into next stitch, 1 DC into next 4 stitches. Repeat around. Connect to top of CH 3 (30)
Row 21: CH 3, *2 DC into next stitch, 1 DC into next 5 stitches. Repeat around. Connect to top of CH 3 (35)
Row 22: CH 3, *2 DC into next stitch, 1 DC into next 6 stitches. Repeat around. Connect to top of CH 3 (40)
Row 23: CH 3, *2 DC into next stitch, 1 DC into next 7 stitches. Repeat around. Connect to top of CH 3 (45)
Row 24-29: CH 3, DC around. Connect to top of CH 3 (45)
Switch to Dark Green
Working on the inside of the hat instead of outside, since the hat will be folded up you will want the pretty side of the stitch on the inside.
Row 30: CH 2, HDC around. Connect to top of CH 2. Finish off.
Switch to White for TEETH!
Attach yarn where you want your first tooth ( I folded my hat in half with the seam facing me, and attached it to the 18th stitch to the right… like in the picture above)
SC into next 3 stitches, turn,
do not SC into the same stitch, SC in next 3 stitches, turn,
do not SC into same stitch, SC into next 2 stitches, turn
do not SC into same stitch, SC into next stitch, CH 1. finish off and weave end of string into the tooth
Skip 4 stitches (space between teeth) and repeat
