A Mothers Purse

For the last year I have been using my daughters diaper bag as a purse. I think its about time to down size. We no longer need to pack 4 emergency explosion outfits, 8 diapers, wipes, bottles, 3 blankets… and you get the idea. This free crochet pattern for  A Mothers Purse is very simple and the perfect size for your wallet, phone, keys, wipes, a of couple diapers and anything else that you might need while on the go.

Supplies:

Size 4.25 hook
Worsted weight yarn (I used I Love This Yarn)'
Button

Abbreviations:

CH – Chain
SC – Single Crochet
HDC – Half Double Crochet

Get started!

Row 1:(I started with purple) CH 42, Skip 2 stitches, HDC across
Row 2-5:Turn, CH 2, HDC across

Change colors (I switched to green/blue)

Row 6-10:Turn, CH 2, HDC across

Change colors (I switched to gray)

Row 11-15: Turn, CH 2, HDC across

Change colors (I switched back to purple)

Row 16-20: Turn, CH 2, HDC across

Change colors (I switched back to green/blue)

Row 21-25: Turn, CH 2, HDC across

Change colors (I switched back to gray)

Row 26-30: Turn, CH 2, HDC across

Row 31: Turn, ~stitching in back loop for this row only~ CH 2, HDC across
Row 32-35: Turn, CH 2, HDC across

Row 36: ~stitching in front loop for this row only~ Turn, CH 2, HDC across
Row 37-40: Turn, CH 2, HDC across

Change colors (I switched back to green/blue)

Row 41-45: Turn, CH 2, HDC across

Change colors (I switched back to purple)

Row 46-50: Turn, CH 2, HDC across

Change colors (I switched back to gray)

Row 51-55: Turn, CH 2, HDC across

Change colors (I switched back to green/blue)

Row 56-60: Turn, CH 2, HDC across

Change colors (I switched back to purple)

Row 61-75: Turn, CH 2, HDC across
Row 76: Turn, CH 1, SC half way across (20 stitches) CH 4, SC in next stitch, SC across.
Row 77: Turn, Slip stitch back across the front of the purse flap, including the CH 4 button loop.

Row 1: With the gray yarn, CH 10, HDC in 3rd CH from hook, HDC across
Row 2-5: Turn, CH 2, HDC across

Change colors (I used blue/green)

Row 6-10: Turn, CH 2, HDC across

Change colors (I used purple)

Row 11-15: Turn, CH 2, HDC across

Change colors (I used gray)

Row 16-20: Turn, CH 2, HDC across

Change colors (I used blue/green)

Row 21-25: Turn, CH 2, HDC across

Change colors (I used purple)

Row 26-95: Turn, CH 2, HDC across

Change colors (I used blue/green)

Row 96-100: Turn, CH 2, HDC across

Change colors (I used gray)

Row 101-105: Turn, CH 2, HDC across

Change colors (I used purple)

Row 106-110: Turn, CH 2, HDC across

Connect the strap/sides of the purse with a single crochet stitch. I made mine connect on the outside to show the stitching.Be sure to leave the loops you didnt sitch through in rows 31 and 34 of the purse bottom on the outside. When doing your SC, also SC across the top front of the purse to make it have a nice finished look.

Use the pictures  to guide you when sewing on your button.
