How cute is this Panda Hat? If you do not already know, I don't usually take orders for crochet items but when when this lovely model, in the photo above, asked me to crochet her a Panda Hat, I couldn't resist! Have fun with this free crochet pattern for an Adult Panda Hat!
Supplies:
5mm hook
Yarn Needle
2 white buttons
Worsted weight/4 ply Red Heart (black and white)
Abbreviations
CH – Chain
SC – Single Crochet
HDC – Half Double Crochet
DC – Double Crochet
CH 3 does not count as a double crochet
Get Started!
Starting with white yarn
(CH 3 does not count as DC)
Round 1: Magic Ring, CH 3, DC 10, pull ring tight, join to top CH of CH 3 (10 DC)
Round 2: Ch 3, 2 DC each DC around. Join to top CH of CH 3. (20 DC)
Round 3: Ch 3. *2 DC in next DC, DC in next DC, repeat from * around. Join to top CH of CH 3. (30 DC)
Round 4: Ch 3. *2 DC in next DC, DC in next 2 DC, repeat from * around. Join to top CH of CH 3. (40 DC)
Round 5: Ch 3. *2 DC in next DC, DC in next 3 DC, repeat from * around. Join to the top of CH 3. (50 DC)
Round 6: Ch 3. *2 DC in next DC, DC in next 4 DC, repeat from * around. Join to the top of CH 3. (60 DC)
Round 7: Ch 3. DC around. Join to the top of CH 3.(60 DC)
Round 8: Ch 3. *2 DC in next DC, DC in next 9 DC, repeat from * around. Join to the top of CH 3. (66 DC)
Round 9-15: Ch 3, DC in each DC around. Join to the top of CH 3. (68 DC)
Do not finish off.
First Earflap
Row 1: Turn, SC in next 13 stitches
Row 2: Turn, SC in next 12 stitches
Row 3: Turn, Sc in next 11 stitches
Row 4: Turn, SC in next 10 stitches
Row 5: Turn, SC in next 9 stitches
Row 6: Turn, SC in next 8 stitches
Row 7: Turn, SC in next 7 stitches
Row 8: Turn, SC in next 6 stitches
Row 9: Turn, SC in next 5 stitches
Row 10: Turn, SC in next 4 stitches
Row 11: Turn, SC in next 3 stitches
Finish off
Attach yarn (counting from the seam of the hat, to the right) into
the 26th stitch.
Second Earflap
Row 1: Turn, SC in next 13 stitches
Row 2: Turn, SC in next 12 stitches
Row 3: Turn, Sc in next 11 stitches
Row 4: Turn, SC in next 10 stitches
Row 5: Turn, SC in next 9 stitches
Row 6: Turn, SC in next 8 stitches
Row 7: Turn, SC in next 7 stitches
Row 8: Turn, SC in next 6 stitches
Row 9: Turn, SC in next 5 stitches
Row 10: Turn, SC in next 4 stitches
Row 11: Turn, SC in next 3 stitches
Change to black yarn and SC around the edge of the hat. Finish off
Nose
With black yarn
Round 1: Magic Circle, CH 2, 9 HDC inside magic circle, Join to top of CH 2.
Round 2: CH 2, HDC into same stitch. One HDC into next stitch.** 2 HDC into next stitch. One HDC into next stitch. Repeat from ** around. Join to top of CH 2.
Round 3: CH 2, HDC around. Join to top of CH 2.
Attach nose ( I stuffed my nose with a small amount of black yarn when attaching)
Eyes Patches
Round 1: Magic Circle, CH 1,10 SC inside ring. Join to first SC
Round 2, CH 1, 2 SC into same stitch. 2 SC into each of the next 2 stitches, 2 DC in each of the next 4 stitches. 2 SC into each of the last 3 stitches. join into first SC.
Round 3: 2 SC into same stitch, SC into next 5 stitches. HDC into next stitch. DC into both of the next 2 stitches. 2 DC in both of the next 2 stitches. DC into both of the next 2 stitches. HDC into next stitch. SC into each of the next 6 stitches. Join into first SC.
Repeat and Attach to hat with the seam of the patches pointing up at a slight angle towards the center of the face of the hat.
Attach a button over the Round 1 of the eyes just made.
Ears
Using TWO black strands of yarn at once
Round 1: Magic Circle, CH 3 ,10 DC inside ring. Join to top of CH 3
Round 2: CH3, 2 DC into each stitch around. Join to top of CH 3.
Round 3: CH 1, SC into each stitch around, join to first SC
Repeat and attach.
Braids
Cut 18 strands of 3 feet long black yarn for each braid. Attach 6 strands (folded making 12 strands)into each of the last 3 SC in the earflaps and braid!

I am currently making your cute panda hat. I do not understand that “Turn” means at the beginning of each row of the earflap. Could you please explain? Could not find a video for that. Thank you, Rena
You just turn and go back the other direction across the earflap 🙂
Do you chain for the ear flaps?
Only if the pattern says to.
How do you get the pattern to print?
You can either click the print icon at the bottom of the post (to the left of the pin it option) or press “ctrl and P”

How do you attach the ears?
I used a yarn needle and yarn.
At the end of round 8 you have 66DC then rd 9 you have 60 & repeat through round 15…Do i decrease back to 60? Or is there suposed to be a hole in it?
It’s just a typo. I will go fix it.
