Blossom Earflap

December 28, 2012 By stitch11 13 Comments

Loving Rose

The time has come for me to make myself a hat! This free crochet pattern is designed to fit teens and adults. I used two strands of Redheart Love to work this simple and quick earflap hat up. I wanted to use two strands so it would be thicker, squishy, and stretchy— and as a bonus, it made it a very quick project! I love my new hat!! Please excuse the poor quality photo. Last night I purchased a new camera and I am still learning how to use it.  Cameras have changed so much in the last 10 years.. leaving me feeling very outdated!

Blossom Earflap Hat

Supplies
9 MM – N Crochet Hook
Worsted weight yarn (I used less than one skein of Redheart Love)
Yarn Needle

Stitches

Round 4: CH 3, DC into same stitch, DC into next 2 stitches. **2 DC into next stitch, DC into next 2 stitches. Repeat from ** around. Join to top of CH 3. (32 DC including CH 3)
Round 5: CH 3, DC into same stitch, DC into next 3 stitches. **2 DC into next stitch, DC into next 3 stitches. Repeat from ** around. Join to top of CH 3. (40 DC including CH 3)

CH 2, HDC around edge of hat. Join to top of CH 2.

Flower (still using 2 strands of yarn)

Step 1: CH 30, 5 Treble Crochet into 4th CH from hook.Skip 2 CH, SC into next CH.

Step 2: Skip 1 CH, 5 Treble Crochet into next CH.Skip 2 CH, SC into next CH.

Step 5: Skip 1 CH, 5 DC into next CH.Skip 2 CH, SC into next CH.

Step 6: Skip 1 CH, 3 HDC into next stitch, SC into next stitch

Leaving long tail, finish off.

Swirl the flower together, with the smaller pedals on the inside. You can keep this flower as tight or loose as you wish.

With yarn needle and tail, Weave the piece together on the bottom of the flower. To do this, I just went in and out from the center the entire way around the bottom of the flower. Finish off. Attach flower to hat with yarn needle.

Braids (single strand of yarn)

Cut six 3 foot strands of yarn for each braid. Attach 6 strands (folded making 12) into the second stitch of row 6 on the earflaps. Braid.

Pom Poms (Single strand of yarn)

I wrapped my yarn short ways around a 24 piece crayon box 75 times for each pom pom. I tie the strands in half, then cut my loops and shape the pom pom. Attach pom poms to end of braids, cut braid ends to same length of pom poms.

Fold 6 strands in half of yarn over your hook, Pull through the middle stitch on the last row of the earflap, then take your yarn ends and pull them through the loop you just made. Braid down and tie at the end. 🙂 let me know if you still have questions
