5 mm crochet hook

Stitches Used
Slip Stitch
Magic Circle
CH- Chain
SC- Single Crochet

    Hi,

my name is Almut, I’m from Berlin, Germany and I’m a beginner. I finished the hat and now want to make the oval. What exactly is meant when it says “join to 1st HDC”? Shall I make another HDC in 1st HDC or a CH?
Thanks in advance and kind regards,
    Almut Schleinitz

To join you use the slip stitch.

Can the size be adjusted for an eighteen year old boy. If so how?

What is the gauge on this. My hat is coming out way smaller than 9-10 inches.
