Duck Hat

QUACK! This adorable duck hat fits most 2-6 year olds. Have fun with this YARNTASTIC free crochet pattern from your very own Stitch11. ย ๐Ÿ™‚ Check out the 12 month size duck hat!

Supplies:

5mm hook
Worsted weight yarn (I used yellow and orange peaches and creme cotton yarn, and acrylic black, blue, and white)

Abbreviations:

CH –ย chain
DC –ย double crochet
SC –ย single crochet
HDC – half double crochet

Instructions:ย 

Starting with yellow yarn
Round 1: Magic Ring, CH 3, DC 10, pull ring tight, join to top CH of CH 2
Round 2: CH 2, 2 DC each DC around.ย  Join to top CH of CH 2. (20 DC)
Round 3: CH 2.ย  *2 DC in next DC, DC in next DC, repeat from * around.ย  Join to top CH of CH 2. (30 DC)
Round 4: CH 2.ย  *2 DC in next DC, DC in next 2 DC, repeat from * around.ย  Join to top CH of CH 2.ย  (40 DC)
Round 5: CH 2.ย  *2 DC in next DC, ย DC in next 3 DC, repeat from * around.ย  Join to top CH of CH 2. (50 DC
Round 6: CH 2.ย  Dc around.ย  Join to top CH of CH 2.
Round 7: CH 2.ย  *2 DC in next DC, DC in next 4 DC, repeat from * around.ย  Join to top CH of CH 2. (60 DC)
Round 8-11: CH 2, DC in each DC around.ย  Join to top CH of CH 2.
Round 12: CH 2, ย HDC around. Join to top CH of CH 2.

Switch to orange yarn

1. CH 1, HDC ย in first 40 stitches, turn
2. Slip stitch in next 20 stitches, turn
3. (Now in this round when you SC you will be making the last two steps (step 1 and 2) into one larger stitch.)SC in first stitch, 2 SC in next stitch, SC in next 17 stitches, turn
4. Slip stitch 19, turn
5. ย ( in this round when you SC you will be making the last two steps (step 3 and 4) into one larger stitch.)SC in first 14 stitches, 2 SC in next stitch, SC in next 3 stitches, turn
6. Slip Stitch 18, turn
7. ย (Now in this round when you SC you will be making the last two steps (step 5 and 6 ) into one larger stitch.)SC in 17 stitches, turn
8. slip stitch 17, ย turn
9. ย (Now in this round when you SC you will be making the last two steps (step 7 and 8 ) into one larger stitch.)SC in 16 stitches, turn
10. SC down side of brim and HDC around to the back of the hat, connect to CH 1
11. CH 1, SC around until you get to the brim, Slip stitch around the brim, SC to the back of the hat, Connect to CH 1

Eyes

With black yarn

Magic Circle
Round 1: ย CH 2, 10 HDC inside of magic circle, Connect to top of CH 2

Change to blue yarn

Round 2: CH 1, 2 SC in each stitch, Connect to CH 1

Change to White yarn

Round 3: CH 2, *2 HDC in first stitch, 1 HDC in next stitch* ย Repeat from * around, connect to top of CH 2

attach to hat (using my pictures as a guide)

 

Pom Pom (optional)

Wrap yellow yarn around 4 fingers 50 times, gather and tie with a piece of yellow yarn around the middle, Cut the loops and shape with scissors, attach to top of the hat

Bow (optional)

Row 1: (leaving 12 inch tail) CH 13 with pink yarn, DC in 3rd CH
from hook, DC across

Row 2-12 : CH 2, DC across

finish off (leaving another 12 inch tail) Weave both tails down edge
of the center of the bow on both sides and wrap the tails around the
middle to gather it like a bow. ย Attach to front of pom pom

    i have a ? when i go to download the March 2012 Duck Hat
    the whole pattern does not appear in the pdf file.
    it stops with “eyes” and the rest of the pattern is missing.
    cant download the whole pattern

    thanks for any help
