Have you ever worked with crochet clusters? They’re not actually hard to do – you just start working a double crochet stitch but don’t complete the last step before starting the next stitch, then repeat that several times and finish them all together.
Once you get the knack of it they’re lots of fun and they make a cool texture on patterns like this beanie that will fit a teen or adult.

The hat calls for worsted weight yarn, and while the original was worked in a solid color, it’s easy to make this a stash buster by doing each cluster round in a different color. Or work the bottom of the hat in one color and another toward the top.

Love the things I see here.
Love the crochet hat pattern. It is beautiful!
I started out with the J hook, it looked to small for a teenager, so I am trying it with a K., still looks small. Is there a number count that I can make it bigger.
Your starting FSC needs to be in counts of 6. 🙂
I also thought this was kind of small I used the G hook because I’m using a small yarn gauge but 54 chains is small more for a toddler. I still think it would only be good for a small child if I used the standard 5-6mm hook and regular yarn but guess we will see.
Hi there! This is a great hat. I was wondering though, each cluster is made in one stitch right not over a few stitches? I know that sounds dumb but I wanted to double check. My pattern mojo has been lacking lately and I’m tired of starting over lol. Thanks in advance for the advice and for the great patterns!
Best wishes,
Sebrina
Yes, one stitch 🙂 Good luck with your mojo! <3
The pattern says 9 SC dec, but I have way more than that. When I closed the top, it’s bunched up :/
How many do you have?
Round 16 has SC into each stitch around. (18) SC. On previous rounds the ending stitches was 54 SC. Why only 18 SC at the end of this row?
You are working from the bottom of the hat up, when you get to the top of the hat, you need less stitches.
This is a beautiful hat! I’m going to make some to donate and some for my grand and greatgrand children
why do you call it a 5 double crochet cluster when it is the exact same steps as the puff stitch or the bean stitch?
Hi Carol! No, a puff stitch would be quite different, refer to this video – https://youtu.be/00AJ6rmBnvQ?t=120
