Wicked Wizard Witches Hat

August 10, 2012 By Corina 50 Comments

My daughter is in love with her new Wicked Wizard Witches Hat! I designed this hat just for her, and she knew it! She barely let me even finish the hat before ripping it out of my hands. One of the best things about being a crochet hooker is that my daughter has been well trained to love hats! 😀 I am sharing this free crochet pattern, for a toddler size Witch/Wizard hat, with all of you <3 I hope you enjoy it as much as my daughter does.

Also check out the Newborn size!

Just wondering if this would fit a 5 year old? If not, how could I make it bigger?
    Thanks! Great pattern.

It would but it would be a little rounder where being stretched around the head… All you would have to do is add another increasing round and I bet it would be perfect!

Hey Corina, I have a question in round 5 does that mean 2 hdc in the same stitch hdc in the next 2 times, then repeat. The hat is just adorable!

You can follow the pattern in DC too and I bet it will work. What size are you needing? I am guessing that if I followed this pattern in DC the hat would probably still fit my daughter just as well. She is 21 months.

I wouldnt use a bigger hook, if anything smaller just because the stitches are already loose. BUT it will be really easy fo ryou to make it bigger, just add a couple more increasing rounds <3

It means to Half Double Crochet into both of the next two stitches.

This is the PERFECT pattern! But, I need help! I’m fine until round 5. Then I get lost! Can you spell it out a little clearer for me? I’m doing the 2 HDC in the first stitch, then combining a single HDC in the next two. So where I should have 8 sts I end up with 6. Is it supposed to be 2 HDC in the first stitch , 1 HDC in the next, and then another 1 HDC in the next? I’m guessing that every other row will follow this pattern and if I do it my way it comes out WAY wrong! Thanks in advance!

THere will not be any decrease stitches in this hat. You will want to do a HDC in both the next two stitches, not combining them into one. <3 hope that helps

Thank you so much!!!! Like I said, this pattern is PERFECT! I have a very undersized 6 year old daughter (still in toddler clothes) so finding a Halloween costume that fits both her size and age has been an exercise in futility. This hat is absolutely the perfect finishing touch for her!

I finally got around to uploading my pictures from Halloween!!! I don’t have your FB. I simply went up by 2 hook sizes to make it fit my 6 year old. And she LOVES it! Thanks again for sharing this wonderful pattern!!! If you want, my FB is http://www.facebook.com/kirstin.p.bonney. The pictures are in my Halloween ’12 album.

    Hi…this a perfect hat for halloween, I am a begginer. T
his will be my daugther’s 1st halloween. She is currently 11 months.
i started it, but looks a little odd. i think my mistake is i was doing 2HDC in the same stich and then 2 on each stich. By reading past post it looks like 2 HDC is in each stich right not on the same?

    Thank you
