0-3 Month Frog Hat

February 15, 2013 By Corina 12 Comments

Free- Crochet- Frog-Hat-Pattern

Recently I designed the  Newborn Princess Hat. When taking the photo I took advantage of a nearby frog to add my logo into the picture. My cousin (who is the pregnant one) loves frogs and always has as far back as I  can remember. Anyways, after taking the photo of the princess hat, I knew I had to do my best at a frog hat.

Hope you have a hoppin time with this free crochet pattern for a 0-3 month frog hat!

Supplies
Red Heart Super Saver Yarn – Medium Weight (Green, and  small amounts of red, white, and black)
N-9.00 mm Crochet Hook
F-3.75 mm Crochet Hook
Yarn Needle

Crochet Stitches Used
SC – Single Crochet
HDC – Half Double Crochet

Crochet Frog Beanie

Using size N crochet hook.
Using Green yarn. ( Double strands – I used both ends of one skein)

Round 2: CH 1, 2 HDC in each HDC around. Join to first HDC (16)

Round 5-9: CH 1, 1 HDC in each HDC. Join to first HDC. (30)
Round 10-12: CH 1, 1 SC in each HDC. Join to first SC. (30)

Finish off.

Using size F crochet hook.
Starting with Black yarn (single strand)

Round  1: Magic Circle, CH 1, 8 HDC inside magic circle. Join to first HDC and pull ring tight. (8)
Change to White yarn (single strand)
Round 2: CH 1, 2 HDC in each HDC around. Join to first HDC (16)
Round 3: CH 1, **2 SC in next HDC, 1 SC in next HDC. Repeat from ** around. Join to first SC. (24)
Finish off and repeat for second eye

Crochet Back of Frog Eyes

Using size F crochet hook
Using Green yarn (single strand)

Round  1: Magic Circle, CH 1, 8 HDC inside magic circle. Join to first HDC and pull ring tight. (8)
Round 2: CH 1, 2 HDC in each HDC around. Join to first HDC (16)
Round 3: CH 1, **2 SC in next HDC, 1 SC in next HDC. Repeat from ** around. Join to first SC. (24)
Finish off and repeat for second eye

Lay the eye and back of eye together. With both insides touching. Using F crochet hook. Join with 2 strands (I used both ends of one skein) Green yarn. Be sure to be crocheting on the side with the eye.
Round 1-2: CH 1, HDC  into each stitch around. Join to first HDC.

Finish off. Repeat for second eye and attach them to the top of the beanie with a yarn needle. When I attached mine, I folded the beanie so that round 1 of the beanie was completely in the back of the hat. Then I attached the eyes to round 2 and part of round 3 of the beanie where the beanie was folded.

Crochet Frog Cheeks

Using size F crochet hook
Using Red yarn (Single strand)

Round  1: Magic Circle, CH 1, 8 HDC inside magic circle. Join to first HDC and pull ring tight. (8)
Round 2: CH 1, 2 HDC in each HDC around. Join to first HDC (16)

Finish off and repeat for second cheek.

When I first learned how to crochet, I found a great tutorial to teach me how to surface crochet. I used this tutorial to know how to make my smile. If you do not want to surface slip stitch for your smile, you can always sew a smile on with your yarn needle.

Once your smile is made, attach the cheek circles to both sides of the smile.

i reallylike a lot of your patterns but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to copy and save them. Is there a special thing I need to do to save your patterns for the future.

Hi Pauline! I’m glad you like them. I do not currently have the copy and paste option. But you can print the patterns with print option located at the bottom of each post/pattern. Hope that helps!

Try attaching them a little more. The more you attach them with the yarn and needle the stronger they will hold.

One of the things that holds the eyes up so well is that it is double stranded.
