Stitch11 is learning to SEW!

July 4, 2016 By stitch11 2 Comments

Stitch11 is learning NEW stitches!

I've been facing a battle with my own creative mind. I LOVE crochet… but am getting jaded. I keep trying to mix it up so I can get my crojo back, but I finally realized that I just need to open my world to new stitches!
After a few day hunt, I located my dusty sewing machine. The one I BEGGED my mother to buy me years ago… not realizing how different it was compared to the one I used growing up.
I packed it away, with hate for it… because I just-couldn't figure the darn thing out.
FINALLY! I am breaking the chains in my own mind, and I am determined to conquer this machine once and for all!
I decided to start small, and repurpose some old clothes. Check it out!

I used a pair of yoga pant's my daughter had grown too tall for, and the bottom of a dress that she also had grown too tall for. SO CUTE!

Next, I used the bottom of one of my old dresses, and for the waste band I used my daughters T-shirt she had outgrown. She loves it so much that she wants to wear it on her first day of school. She said “It's PERFECT!” with the biggest smile. <3 Warmed my heart!

Do you sew? Are you trying to learn? Tell me your own experiences, battles, and advice for someone like me who just can't seem to keep the tension right. 😉

I know how you feel about crocheting. I reach that point also that I need something different. So I am making a ‘ton’ of cloth napkins for Christmas gifts. I am edging some and mitering some and also putting a decorative design from my sewing machine in the corner. I am also doing some cross-stitch on quilt blocks to sew together later this fall. You will be able to get the machine in time. Everything takes a little time to learn it but in time you will understand and be able to make it work for you. Always test a sample of your material for tension and don’t forget the knobs are always able to be turned back. You just have to keep trying the sample. You can do it!!!!!

I too am learning to sew and getting the tension right is frustrating and puts me off, so I revert to crochet, but I do need to persevere.
