Sweet Bunny Hat – Pattern Review

March 23, 2015 By stitch11 5 Comments

Ella Bunny - pattern review

When I spotted this ADORABLE bunny hat by BriAbby, I knew I HAD to make it! I have seen some cute Easter hats before, but I am not sure if anything could ever compare to the cuteness level coming from this pattern!

For my daughter, I made the 4-6 yr size. Using I Love This Yarn and the hook sizes as directed, it fits her beautifully with a little room to grow. Ella asked me to add a couple bows. I used this free bow pattern. Although the pattern consist of mostly SC, it didn't take very long to complete. You could make one every single day from now til Easter! You have plenty of time! So *HOP* on over and get your copy of the pattern! (Click the word “Hop” to be directed to the pattern)

Photo below belongs to BriAbby. You can also click the photo to be directed to her pattern.

When I first discovered this pattern, I loved the way the flower petals curled and went together. I had no clue how she accomplished such a pretty and unique look. I knew I had to crochet one!

The technique she has for adding rows of petals is something I have never seen done before. Not only is it different, but it's also simple. You get the 3D flower without the bulk! This flower will make a great embellishment!

The Perfect Flower – Free Crochet Pattern – Review

February 21, 2015 By stitch11 3 Comments

The Perfect Flower - Free Crochet Pattern - Review

The term “Nothing is what is seems” comes to mind when I made this flower. When I first looked at the photo, it reminded me of my beginner crochet days, when I would make multiple flowers, layer them, and attach them together with a button.
This flower does NOT do that!!!! No more wasting time making layers!!! This flower is quick, simple, unique, and ONE flower!

I was so curious as to how it was going to come together (I never read ahead on patterns.. I know, shame on me. 😉 ) So when I realized the back and front petals are done first, and then the middle layer of petals, I was pretty impressed and amazed!

Free Pansy Flower Crochet Pattern – Review

Free Pansy Flower Crochet Pattern - Review

I have been admiring this flower pattern for about a year now. So, when I asked my designer friends to share their flower links with me, I was so excited to finally have the push to complete it. That is, until I realized I had already packed away my buttons! We are moving during this next week… and I really didn't want to move the boxes around to find the right craft tote.
Perfect excuse to go button shopping!!!! I found these little pearl buttons at Walmart. I knew they would be perfect for the flower color combos I had in mind.
My favorite part of following this pattern wasn't how easy it was (although it is VERY easy!) But just seeing the way other designers brains work. >.< I know this sounds silly.. but each of us think in different ways. The way she put this pansy together is perfect!! And is also something I would have never thought of on my own. So “Thank you!” Little Monkey's Crochet for sharing your crochet smarts, and this pattern with us!

Fantastic Curly Flower

Fantastic Curly Flower -Free Crochet Pattern -Review

Oombawka Design Crochet shared this fun free flower crochet pattern with me. This is the 3rd flower I have decided to work up and review while I am in the process of moving.

Get the free crochet pattern HERE.

The pattern is very easy and fun to follow. Great little pattern when you need to add some pretty sass to a project.

The entire time I was crocheting the pedals, my kitten was trying to eat my project! It all started with the yarn ball but once she seen the curly pedals.. she wasn't going to give up! I will probably attach this beautiful flower to a string and let it be hers… after all, she is princess Beauty. 😉

Pet Cowl – Free Crochet Pattern – Review

Pet Cowl - Free Crochet Pattern - Review

My family is moving this month.. so with all the craziness going on, I haven't been able to put much time into my love for crochet. In efforts to keep my blog moving with the little spare time I have, I decided to ask my fellow bloggers to share their flower patterns with me- so I can review them. As a bonus, I get to share beautiful flower crochet patterns just in time for Spring!

The first one I decided to hook up, is this oh-so-cute flower cowl for animals. This free crochet pattern is designed by Posh Pooch Designs. You can get the pattern >HERE<

The pattern worked up super quick, and as you can see, it's adorable!!!! The only change I made, was subtracting the starting chain by 4 stitches. 🙂 Beauty is still pretty small. <3

Miss Beauty is the newest model of our family 😉 We recently adopted her from a cat rescue here in Indiana. If you live in Indiana or would like to contribute to the cause, check out Howard County Kitten Rescue.

Little Bigfoot Lion – Review- Free Pattern

January 21, 2015 By stitch11 Leave a Comment

Free Lion Crochet Pattern

As many of you already know, my boss is a 4 year old little girl. She likes looking over my shoulder while I adore patterns by other designers.

Yesterday, she fell in love with all the Little Big Foot animals, designed by Amiguruimi To Go. But when she laid her eyes on the lion- I was given the color directions and told to get to work! 😉

Click HERE for the free lion pattern.

The pattern worked up very quickly and so much easier than it would appear. The lion is the perfect size! Not so big that your fingers will feel like they are going to fall off, and not too small that it looks sloppy. It's the PERFECT size! I found no flaws and have nothing negative to say about this pattern. I loved it every step of the way! Thanks so much for the awesome pattern Amigurumi To Go!

Christmas Party – Apple Cozy – Free Pattern Review

December 18, 2014 By stitch11 7 Comments

Christmas Party Apple Cozy

It's Christmas time! That means, Chocolate, hard candy, and pure sugar EVERYWHERE! Although I love sweets, just as much as my daughter… I wanted to send her to school with a Christmas party snack that wasn't the normal sugar rush idea.

What better than an apple wrapped in a red and green cozy?

To make this apple cozy, I followed the Large version of THIS PATTERN. I used Red Heart with Love and a 5 mm crochet hook. I didn't make the drawstring.. because they clearly fit well enough to have no need to tighten. I did want to add name tags, so I cut felt into leaf shapes and hot glued them on!  Each one took be a little more than an hour. But I could have made them faster if needed.

My daughter loves them, as I am sure the other 3-4 year old's will too!

Chevron Lace Cowl – (free) pattern review

December 7, 2014 By stitch11 2 Comments

Chevron Lace Cowl

I have been wanting to make something “Chevron” for a very long time now. When I discovered this Chevron Lace Infinity Scarf pattern by Moogly… I quickly put it at the top of my list.

I did use a thicker yarn that the pattern called for. I used Red Heart With Love and a size N crochet hook. I also made the scarf shorter before joining because I have been loving the look and ease of cowls lately more than infinity scarves.
Especially when crocheting for a blind family member, she won't have to worry about the scarf falling and tripping her. And since it's shorter, it's less likely to snag on anything while she is walking.

My first attempt at following the pattern I was REALLY confused, but then I scrolled down a little and found Moogly's diagram. Then it ALL made since. If you have never used a diagram, this will be the perfect project… especially since you have a written pattern to help you understand it!

Thanks Moogly for sharing another great free pattern!

Leaping Stripes – For Men – Pattern Review

December 2, 2014 By stitch11 5 Comments

Leaping Stripes - For Men

My husband let me know that his feelings were hurt. 🙁 I had been crocheting for over two years, and have never made him a hat. AND, I have made everyone in both of our families hats.. and never made one for him. >See last years men's beanie Christmas gifts<

I tried to explain to him that I was waiting for the perfect design for him…. and that I didn't want to make him wear something that wasn't manly enough. It is hard to know if something designed with yarn is fit for the most picky manly man you know. >.< It wasn't that I didn't want to make him something… it was just that I had not came up or found the perfect design for him.

So, to solve our problem, I showed him a bunch of crochet beanie designs… and let him pick which one was his favorite. I also let him choose what yarn colors to use. He knew instantly when seeing the Leaping Stripes Beanie by Moogly that it was perfect for him.

I did make changes for the brim, but only because I really like making them a certain way. I did three rows of *2 HDC, 2 FPDC* repeated. One row of SC. And finished it off with one row of FPSC to make sure it is snug under the ears.

The hat fits him perfect and he loves it! Thanks Moogly!!!

The Samantha Slouch – Pattern Review

November 8, 2014 By stitch11 Leave a Comment

Samantha Slouch Pattern Review

Like always, my daughter had a clear picture in her mind of what she wanted me to make next. The details she gave me for the hat she wanted was to use red yarn, make it slouchy, and use the buttons she picked out at Hobby Lobby a month ago.
I asked some of my blogging friends to direct me to their child size slouch hat patterns. If you follow me on Facebook, you may have noticed me sharing a bunch of different slouch hat designs… and this way why! 🙂
After looking over each design, I knew this one would be perfect for what she had in mind.  I am so excited to share my results. It turned out even more beautiful than I could have ever imagined. I seriously couldn't be happier… and neither could Ella! Her face lit up so bright when she checked it out in the mirror. <3 My heart grew as her smile did. This is what I live for! <3
The Samantha Slouch Hat is designed by Crochet by Jennifer and has newborn-adult sizes! You can get your copy of this AMAZING pattern HERE <— 🙂

Trees Go Round - Free Pattern - Review

I have the Christmas Spirit! Between wearing my Christmas socks, putting up Christmas lights around my daughters bed, and having this uncontrollable urge to crochet Christmas hats…. I think I am ready for the Holidays!
I was searching through Cre8tion Crochet's Ravelry, when I rediscovered this beautiful free hat pattern. I had seen this pattern about a year ago but never had the time to work it up. I was not going to push it down my list any longer!
I personally found the pattern easy to follow. I used the 5.5 mm hook for a child size.
This was also my first experience making a tassel! So much easier than I thought it would be… and I don't think it will be falling apart anytime soon like I would have imagined!  Get your own copy of the free pattern >HERE<
