Puppy Love – I Heart Mom Bandana For Dogs

My sister recently sent me a link to a dog sweater that had the “I <3 Mom” tattoo picture on it. She really wanted one for her new dog, but couldn't let herself pay the ridiculous amount they were asking. I told her not to worry- I can hook it up! But now the weather is starting to get warmer… so I figured a bandana would get more use.
The photo at the very bottom of this post is actually my dog.. but I will be adding another picture right under these paragraphs of her beautiful dog modeling it- once she gets a good pic.
The greatest thing about this free bandana is that it is very adjustable! Using two buttons and having button holes the entire way around the collar, it would fit *most dogs…. just maybe not if you have a giant K9! 🙂 Happy hooking!

Crochet Slippers Help Blood Circulation

I finally have had the chance to crochet myself some slippers! I had my eye on this lovely slipper pattern designed by Petals To Picots.

The pattern is extremely easy to follow and very well written. If you have not made slippers before, this would be the ideal pattern for you!

I used I Love This Yarn from Hobby Lobby, and I added one row around the edge of SC. I have never been one to be able to wear flats, maybe because my toes are too long? lol! It was a simple change to customize them to my own feet.

They fit perfect!

It didn't take but a couple steps to recognize the feeling they gave my feet… they feel JUST LIKE my shoes that are made to improve blood circulation! If you suffer from poor blood circulation in your legs and feet, I highly recommend you try these out… and see if they help! Beats paying hundreds, or thousands of dollars going to doctors, foot specialist, and paying over the top prices for medications that could be avoided.

Ready for Spring Beanie – Child Size Crochet Pattern

With this beanie you will be starting from the bottom of the hat and crocheting up towards the crown. The band that goes around the bottom of the hat has a fantastic stretch that makes it so this hat has a PERFECT fit for 3 year old's- teens!
The warm ribbed band also helps your ears avoid the cold winds that can linger towards the end of winter and during the beginning of spring- keeping your ears warm and reducing the risk of ear infections and earaches.
While the weather is changing so quickly… the V stitches will help your head stay warm- but also helps it from getting too hot!
The beautiful rose pattern is one I found by Petals to Picots. The free pattern is simple, unique, and perfect for accessorizing a beanie!

Octopus Family- With Link To Free Crochet Pattern

Everyone is fascinated by these 8 legged under water creatures. They only take around 2 hours to crochet!
Around eight months ago I discovered this free pattern through ravelry. Squidoo.com wrote this pattern very simple. Make it once, and you will know it for life!
I also added a circle to the bottom of mine- so I could stuff them. I would make two small crochet circles and attach safety eyes onto them and then attach that to the octopus.
This is the ideal project when you need a break, some excitement, and some quick to sell projects. 4.5 gold stars from me!

Mustache Mug Cozy

The Mustache Mug Cozy is a fun project to work up when needing to take a break from those many other WIP's you have been working on.
The free crochet Mug Cozy pattern (designed by Three Beans in a Pod) is perfect for custom orders and gifting. I chose to use this pattern because after testing out a few others, I realized how hard it was to get the fit just right. This pattern however, works up to fit all the coffee cups in my cabinet.
I also had a lot of fun testing out a few mustache crochet patterns. To be honest… this was the only one I found that was not only the perfect shape, but it is crocheted in one piece! The directions are written so well and simple- even the crochet beginner could work one up in no time. The perfect free Crochet Mustache Pattern is designed by Make and Takes. Be sure to bookmark this one!
For the cozy I used Berroco’s Boboli Lace (in color 4312 – dye lot 7131) and for the mustaches I used Hobby Lobby's “I Love This Yarn”.

Crocodile Stitch Flower – Designed by B.Hooked Crochet

My most loyal customer has been waiting patiently since October for me to make her daughter a new hat. Now that the holidays are over, I was finally able to hook one up!
Her daughter needed a warm hat to match her black coat.. after her and her husband browsed my work, they decided on a newsboy hat. One of the greatest things about this customer- she always gives me free range to get creative. I decided to throw some texture ribbing into the hat.
I told her I would either put her daughter initials or a flower onto the hat. I had my heart sat on initials but no matter how small I crochet the letters (yarn thread and tiny hook).. I just couldn't get them small enough to look appealing on the hat. I wanted them to be no more than 1.5 inches tall. But I know I can figure it out eventually with the free Moogly Alphabet patterns.
Since the letters didn't work out, or I should say, since I didn't yet have the patience to figure out the correct sizes for a toddler hat, I decided to make a beautiful flower.
I searched The Yarn Box and shared 3 flower patterns I have been wanting to try with the customer. Sure enough, she picked the most beautiful one of all.
The Crocodile Stitch Flower – Designed by B.Hooked Crochet was perfect for this hat. The pattern is well written and easy to follow. It worked up so beautifully with the Berroco’s Boboli Lace (in color 4312 – dye lot 7131) that I recently used for the 6-12 month leg warmers.

Crochet Beanie Patterns For Men

Each of these 5 hats were inspired by one of the patterns linked below. I say they are “inspired” because I changed each one to be custom and unique for each person I am gifting them to.
I have discovered a new way I like to edge my beanie's and that is with a Front Post Single Crochet. The FPSC makes the edge of the beanie thicker and stronger (while still leaving the stretch) right where the hat needs to feel the most secure.

Pavement Infinity Scarf – Christmas Gifts

I was browsing the beautiful free patterns on Fiber Flux. The Pavement Infinity Scarf caught my eye. The pattern is simple, well written, and easy to follow even while you are half asleep! The perfect pattern for the Christmas gift crunch time!

I didn't have enough bulky yarn so I used some Sensations Rainbow Boucle that I bought a few months ago at JoAnnes. I used the N- 9 mm crochet hook. I did adjust the width of the infinity scarf to a starting chain of 23. I also plan on making another one with the same starting chain amount as Fiber Flux used.

BobOmb! -with link to free pattern

A few days ago I discovered a free pattern for this little guy at The Yarn Box. It was almost like the computer started singing in opera while the screen was glowing brighter and brighter. My step son LOVES to play Mario Bro's! I plan on making him another item with the same theme… just haven't decided exactly what yet.

The pattern is perfect and VERY easy to follow! It worked up really quick too.

The only thing I did different was crocheting the eyes instead of using felt. To do that I made a magic circle and crocheted {SC, HDC, DC, HDC, SC, HDC, DC, HDC} all into the magic circle. Join to first SC and pull tight.

How would I rate this pattern? 5 gold stars!! I have no complaints at all! I could sit and adore this little BobOmb all day. 🙂

Pumpkin Hat Review

A few days ago I discovered the free “Pumpkin Harvest” hat (written by Cathy Kurtz) through a round up on Moogly. This hat is so beautiful that I had no choice but to make it right away. The fact that the pattern said it was designed for babies 6-12 months made it even more irresistible because I have two babies in the family that are currently in that size.

I do have complaints on the pattern… so I will start with those.

1. On ravelry, the designer listed 5 mm crochet hook as the correct hook to use, but when I loaded the free PDF pattern the actual PDF calls for 4.25 mm crochet hook. I went with my gut and used the 5 mm crochet hook and I am so glad I did!!!
2. The pattern says it is for 6-12 month old babies.. but the hat turned out to be the exact measurements for NEWBORN! But, I am ok with it because my husbands cousin had a baby just a couple weeks ago.
3. The vine ended up looking really thin and LONG… longer than the hat! So I cut the amount of chains to make the vine in half and switch the 2 SC in the vine to rotating 2 and 3 HDC.

How many stars do I rate this hat? 4 silver stars. Yeah yeah, I know, I had so many complaints! BUT the hat turned out so beautiful and it really is the perfect NEWBORN pumpkin hat! And the fact that the designer says this was her first crochet hat pattern…. we gotta give her some credit for that!

Artfully Simple Pattern Review

Last year I met the fellow blogger/designer/artist Moogly. It didn't take long before I noticed how popular some of her patterns are and how wonderful her fans and followers are. Over the course of a few months I was seeing these beautiful scarves all over the internet. Each one was made by the same pattern but each had their own beautiful, unique, and artistic look. So I decided to give it a go with some special yarn I have been holding onto… just waiting for a pattern to scream out at me.

Using 2 balls of Lion Brands Amazing Yarn “Pink Sands” ( that you can actually get a really good deal on right now through Craftsy) and a button I went on the hunt for and found at JoAnns Fabric… this scarf turned out beautiful!!! The button shopping was so much fun. I had never discovered how fun it really was until now. I think I might enjoy it just as much as yarn shopping :O

Moogly' s free Artfully Simple Pattern is the perfect pattern for any crocheter, even if your a first time hooker. The pattern is so fun, quick, and simple that it really doesn't require much thinking at all. We all need a break from those patterns that you have to read 20 times to understand the next step… and this was the perfect pattern for that! This scarf is also the ideal project for that yarn you have been hoarding.. you know, the yarn you buy because it is beautiful but do not want to use it and risk ruining the beauty. Yes, this scarf works with the yarn in a way that it only compliments the yarn and shows off its artistic fiber yummyness. This pattern receives 5 gold stars from me! I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a break, learning crochet, and for you who has been smelling and petting any beautiful artsy yarn on a daily bases.

Crochet Tree Frog

My daughter has been begging me to make her so many things… and this frog is one of them. When she lists off everything she wants to add to my list, I will have her sit with me while we look at photos. If she see's something she wants, I can only hope the pattern is free or that I can come up with it myself. With this adorable tree frog I was lucky enough to catch a free pattern! Roman Sock has many free crochet patterns that are very cool like the frog pictured above. It was a lot of work but gets done quickly…. if that makes sense. I felt like an expert crocheter after finishing this one 🙂 Thanks Roman Sock!!

And pictured below is the Elephant Lovey… I will be working up a few more soon and writing the pattern. But before I can get to that, I know a little boy who is having a rough time right now… and I am betting some Ninja Turtles will bring some sunshine to his life.

Ear Warmer/Ninja Mask

This Morning my daughter, Ella, woke up in a slightly sad mood. She told me she missed her aunt, uncle, and cousins. When I told her her cousins both started school today, she looked as if her heart was broken. So I decided to make her something that I was hoping would give her a smile. I did a quick search at The Yarn Box (with her watching over my shoulder) When we came across this Super Hero Mask/Ear Warmer she gasped for air and ran to get her miracas… which she calls her “ninja sticks”.
The free pattern is written by The Worsted Crochet Blog… Ever and was extremely easy to follow and worked up fast. I did make mine 4 rows shorter…. other than that, I followed the pattern to a T.
Ella loves her “Ninja Mask”! I may still add a pink bow so she can use it this fall when it starts to get cooler out. 🙂

Poncho For Ella

While browsing the RAKJPatterns Blog, I found a free crochet pattern for a toddler poncho!! If you are in the Yartist Facebook group you already know that I had been searching for an adorable crochet poncho pattern for a while now. There are 3 things I love about this pattern right away. 1- simplicity! You all know I love simple patterns/easy to follow. 2- Adjustable! Just by starting with more or less chains and making more or less rows… you can make all the sizes you wish… its that easy! 3- Its adorable! Only the cutest for my daughter!

While following her pattern, I crocheted rows 1-11 and then I repeated rows 4-7 one more time before continuing to the last row (row 12). I also not only trimmed the bottom, but also the top. I changed colors at the end of each row. But if you do not want to take the time to weave in your ends.. changing colors is an option. I find that I dread weaving in my ends so much through out my projects, but once it comes time to do it… it really doesn't take that long. It can be so rewarding to go ahead and make the color changes!

Crochet Cross Bookmark

A couple days ago I found a beautiful free crochet pattern for a Cross Bangle designed by the Crochet Chiq. I knew right away that I wanted to make some bookmarks with her crochet pattern. For the last year I have searched countless times for the ideal cross to use as a bookmark. There are so many already out there to choose from but none of them were really my style or calling out my name. Thank you so much Crochet Chiq for designing this and sharing it with all of us!

I used crochet thread and a 1.9 mm crochet hook.

Crochet Kitty Cats

A few weeks back I found this awesome free crochet cat pattern from The Yarn Box. I love how easy it is to modify to add a little of my own style…. or the style of each child I made the cats for. I cannot even begin to tell you how much fun I had making these! The only thing I did different from the start was that I used a size E crochet hook instead of H.

Awesome Free Crochet Find!

Check out this awesome FREE crochet pattern for a 12 point star. When finding this pattern in The Yarn Box, I knew I had no choice but to try it out! What I didn't realize was that this thing is HUGE! I love it!! I still wish I had a mini hand sized one though- so I may just have to create a pattern for one. 😀 I would love to make about 10 of these in all different sizes and hang them from one of my children's bedroom ceilings. The greatest thing about this Thingymajigger is that it is great for everyone! All ages!

I did have a few moments while following this pattern when I became a little lost…. but I wasn't going to give up! NEVER give up! Happy Hooking!

Crochet A Kitchen Gift Set

About a week ago my sister, Miranda, from Work At Home Adventures asked me to make her a Potholder and Washcloth set for her to give to some lucky person as a gift. (Yes, anyone who receives a handmade item as a gift is lucky!) My sister supplied the yarn and everything! She brought me one of those big rolls (on a cone) of Peaches and Creme Cotton Yarn from Walmart. I couldn't be any happier with how it turned out….. unless… maybe next time use “I Love this Cotton.” It's what the potholder pattern calls for,

Pansy Doily

When visiting with family on Easter, I asked my gramma what she would like for me to make for her. She said “A doily” :O Im sure she seen the panic on my face because she quickly said “..or anything.” But after I found this beautiful FREE Pansy Doily pattern on Ravelry, I couldn't resist. The flowers are simply gorgeous!
