Child-Teen/Small Adult Size Mouse Hat with a Bow

June 7, 2015 By stitch11 3 Comments

Minnie Mouse Hat - Free Crochet Pattern - Preschool and child-teensmall adult sizes

For the next couple months, I will be working on birthday gifts and baby shower gifts. I will do my best to either write up what I make or review and link the patterns I decide on. This is going to be a fun summer in my little crochet world so make sure you follow Stitch11 on Facebook!

My niece is turning 6! Last week while she was at my house, she told me that she “REALLY REALLY loves Minnie Mouse”! I asked her if that means she needed a Minnie Mouse hat and of course she says “YES!!!”

This hat fits most heads 5 years and up! Although it won't fit all adults, it fits me great. If you are wanting to make it for a larger head just add an extra increase round. If you want it for someone younger than 5, check out my Preschool Minnie Mouse Hat pattern! It's free as well.

Supplies
I/9 – 5.5 mm crochet hook
black med-worsted weight yarn (I used I Love This Yarn)
Yarn needle
You will also need…
#5 Pink Bulky Weight Yarn and a 6.5 mm crochet hook for the bow. For THIS bow, I actually used two strands of Caron Simply Soft held together.

Stitches Used
Magic Circle
CH- Chain
SC- Single Crochet
HDC- Half Double Crochet
FPDC – Front Post Double Crochet
FPSC – Front Post Single Crochet

You will also be using these stitches when making the bow
DC- Double Crochet
HDC-2-TOG
DC-2-TOG

You will be working in continuous rounds.

Round 6:  1 HDC into each of the next 50 stitches. (50)
Round 7: **2 HDC into the next stitch. HDC into the next 4 stitches. Repeat from ** 9 more times. (60)

Finish off and weave in your ends.

Round 4: CH 1, turn. SC into next 4 stitches. 2 SC into the next stitch. HDC into next 3 stitches. 2 HDC into each of the next two stitches. HDC into next 3 stitches. 2 SC into the next stitch. SC into next 4 stitches. (22)
Round 5: CH 1, turn. SC into next 6 stitches. 2 SC into the next stitch. HDC into next 3 stitches. 2 HDC into each of the next two stitches. HDC into next 3 stitches. 2 SC into the next stitch. SC into next 6 stitches. (26)
Round 6: CH 1, turn. SC into next 8 stitches. HDC into next stitch. 2 HDC into the next stitch. HDC into each of the next 6 stitches. 2 HDC into the next stitch. HDC into the next stitch. SC into next 8 stitches. (26)

Finish off and repeat for a total of 4 ears.

Layer 2 ears together and join from one side to the other with the Single Crochet stich. No need to join the bottom, you will do that when attaching it. This will make it a thicker and stronger ear. Attach the ear to the hat and repeat for other ear. I attached my ears across rounds 2-9.

Now all you need to do is make your Minnie Mouse Bow and attach it in front of your ears. For the bow in the picture, I used two strands of pink Caron Simply Soft held  together.
When I attached my bow, I used black yarn and not only attached the bottom center to the hat, but I also attached it to the ears a little bit.

Newborn Skull Knot Hat

May 27, 2015 By stitch11 2 Comments

Newborn Skull Knot Hat

My latest order is for a dear friend who wanted to welcome her new baby home in a custom made crochet hat.
As soon as she messaged me on Facebook, I knew the Crochet Newborn Knot Hat by Repeat Crafter Me would be perfect!

I told her I could put any applique on the hat that she wished.. and she requested a skull. Which is really ideal for their family since her daughters love Monster High!

To make the skull I followed the Day Of The Dead Skull Applique by KristinsKrazyKnits. I found this free pattern through one of Moogly's wonderful round ups that you can check out HERE!

For the hat I used Red Heart With Love and for the skull I used Cascade Cherub DK weight.

Bunny Hat – Free Crochet Pattern – Review

March 24, 2015 By stitch11 Leave a Comment

Bunny Hat - free crochet pattern - review

I decided to follow the free “One Hour Bunny Hat” (<–link to pattern) by Moogly – because I wanted a quick and simple pattern to add to my Easter crochet stash… well, my daughters. 😉

After working up the base of the hat, Ella asked me if the ears would stick up like a “real bunny”. I told her I will see what I can do…

I decided to make two layers of each ear before doing the trim around the ears. I used one white layer and one blue layer for each ear. I then joined them together while doing the trim directed by the pattern. I also lightly stuffed them.
When attaching them, they wanted to flop straight forward. To solve this issue.. I just kept securing them, over and over. I also attached them a little bit together at the bottom of the ears. I would put the hat on, check to see if they stood up, and if not, I would go back and secure them to the base of the hat a little more. Then suddenly, they stayed straight up!

Ella was so excited, as you can see from the photos! This fun and quick pattern made my daughter so happy! Thanks Moogly!!!

Sweet Stitches- Teen/Adult Beanie

January 26, 2015 By stitch11 16 Comments

A sweet beanie that both adults and teens can enjoy! This pattern uses crochet clusters which makes it the perfect opportunity for newbies to add another stitch to their stash. Free pattern is below or get the ad-free printable PDF pattern here.

Sweet Stitches - TeenAdult Beanie - Free Crochet Pattern

Have you ever worked with crochet clusters? They’re not actually hard to do – you just start working a double crochet stitch but don’t complete the last step before starting the next stitch, then repeat that several times and finish them all together.

Once you get the knack of it they’re lots of fun and they make a cool texture on patterns like this beanie that will fit a teen or adult.

Love this easy and fast crochet pattern? So do! That is why I put together a pattern bundle with all my favorite Done In A Day Patterns! And get this…there are 90 patterns included in this collection! Check out the bundle and all the patterns here!

The hat calls for worsted weight yarn, and while the original was worked in a solid color, it’s easy to make this a stash buster by doing each cluster round in a different color. Or work the bottom of the hat in one color and another toward the top.

Leaping Stripes – For Men – Pattern Review

December 2, 2014 By stitch11 5 Comments

Leaping Stripes - For Men

My husband let me know that his feelings were hurt. 🙁 I had been crocheting for over two years, and have never made him a hat. AND, I have made everyone in both of our families hats.. and never made one for him. >See last years men's beanie Christmas gifts<

I tried to explain to him that I was waiting for the perfect design for him…. and that I didn't want to make him wear something that wasn't manly enough. It is hard to know if something designed with yarn is fit for the most picky manly man you know. >.< It wasn't that I didn't want to make him something… it was just that I had not came up or found the perfect design for him.

So, to solve our problem, I showed him a bunch of crochet beanie designs… and let him pick which one was his favorite. I also let him choose what yarn colors to use. He knew instantly when seeing the Leaping Stripes Beanie by Moogly that it was perfect for him.

I did make changes for the brim, but only because I really like making them a certain way. I did three rows of *2 HDC, 2 FPDC* repeated. One row of SC. And finished it off with one row of FPSC to make sure it is snug under the ears.

The hat fits him perfect and he loves it! Thanks Moogly!!!

Trees Go Round – Free Pattern – Review

Trees Go Round - Free Pattern - Review

I have the Christmas Spirit! Between wearing my Christmas socks, putting up Christmas lights around my daughters bed, and having this uncontrollable urge to crochet Christmas hats…. I think I am ready for the Holidays!
I was searching through Cre8tion Crochet's Ravelry, when I rediscovered this beautiful free hat pattern. I had seen this pattern about a year ago but never had the time to work it up. I was not going to push it down my list any longer!
I personally found the pattern easy to follow. I used the 5.5 mm hook for a child size.
This was also my first experience making a tassel! So much easier than I thought it would be… and I don't think it will be falling apart anytime soon like I would have imagined!  Get your own copy of the free pattern >HERE<

Child Size Fox Hat – free crochet pattern

Child Size Fox Hat - Free Crochet Pattern

If you haven't already made the Fox Tail, you must check the Fox Tail Tutorial out right away! I used the same pet brush to fluff this basic medium weight beanie!  You do not have to fluff the beanie you make, it looked beautiful with clean stitches- My daughter is just asking for a fluffy type of fox costume. As much as I would love to make every piece of her costume with super fluffy yarn… it just isn't practical for me at the moment. Basic medium weight yarn is much easier to buy in the colors I need.
There will be more pieces to my daughters costume. If you want to make sure you never miss a post, make sure you subscribe! You can find the option to subscribe on the right side of this site. Thanks!!

Creepy Skull Slouch – Pattern Review

October 2, 2014 By stitch11 14 Comments

Crochet Skull Hat Pattern

I stumbled upon this amazing Skull Hat pattern by Spider Mambo Designs. You can get the pattern HERE. Be sure to check out her Facebook page HERE too!

I want to start off by letting you know how much I am amazed by this design. I would never have been able to figure out how to make skulls like this.. and Spider Mambo makes it EASY!!!!

I did make a few changes… only to my personal liking. I did not find any reasons to HAVE to make changes. You can follow the pattern to exact and it turn out amazing!  I will say, the size small is more like child size.. but my head is small so I made it into an adult beanie instead of slouch.  If you are wanting the teen-adult slouch, definitely make the size large.
What changes did I make?
-I  started off the Creepy Skull pattern with  a FSC instead of the basic CH.
– I then did a round of FPSC before continuing with the DC directed in the pattern. I do this because I love the snug and stretchy fit that the FSC and FPSC together make.
– After round 14, I decided to go ahead and skip the next few rounds to close the hat a little earlier than the pattern calls for. This makes the size small more beanie than slouchy for my own head.  Doing this, I did the 4 SC like the pattern calls for on round 15. Just not the chains. Then, I finished it off with a long end and wove it back and forth around the stitches, pulled tight to close and wove in my ends.
– I decided to line my hat using fleece from sweatpants that my daughter had outgrown. I followed this awesome tutorial by Playin' Hooky Designs!
– I also added a pom pom using my Secure Pom Pom Tutorial.

Crochet New York Newsboy Hat and Diaper Cover

September 27, 2014 By stitch11 1 Comment

https://stitch11.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/New-York-Newsboy-and-Diaper-Cover.jpg

An old friend of mine contacted me with this New York newsboy hat and diaper cover request.
I used my own (free) >Newborn Newsboy< hat crochet pattern.
Below you will find the N and Y crochet pattern.
The diaper cover can be found at >Crochet by Jennifer's Ravelry account<. It is a paid pattern but well worth those few bucks! She gives plenty of measurements to help you make sure everything is coming out the right gauge. The pattern is well written and simple to follow!
I couldn't be more happy with the outcome of the diaper cover! I have followed a free pattern for one in the past but it didn't turn out as perfect as this one.

Using a 5 MM crochet hook and white Medium/Worsted Weight yarn.

Part 3: Slip Stitch into last 5 CH.  CH 1, 2 HDC into same CH.

Blue Bear Hood – Pattern Review

August 27, 2014 By stitch11 5 Comments

Blue Bear Hood

A few days ago, Niftynnifer posted a new free crochet pattern for her Beautiful Blue Bear Hood. The name for it was so fitting, because it really is BEAUTIFUL!

I wanted so badly to make it… but I didn't have the correct yarn on hand. But like most of us crafters, we find a way! I combined a medium/worsted weight yarn with Fun Fur.  I also had to adjust the ears to be smaller.. because I was running out of the Fun Fur.

The pattern is easy to follow and is written really well! If I make this hat again, I will probably order the yarn that she calls for with the pattern.

Although my Blue Bear Hood isn't nearly as stunning as Niftynnifer's,  it's still beautiful! I thought my gauge was correct, but obviously it is smaller than hers. The good news- my daughter loves it and cannot wait to put it to good use this winter. It is so warm and soft! Perfect for going outdoors during those Arctic Air weather blasts we kept having last winter. So this winter, we are prepared!

Minnie Mouse in Preschool

This Minnie Mouse Hat Crochet Pattern is perfect for little ones who are big fans of Miss Minnie Mouse.

When I was first learning how to crochet, a local mom came to me while shopping in the baby food aisle at Walmart. She told me she LOVED my daughter's hat (first and the only thing I had made at the time) She offered me 20 dollars to make her daughter a hat too! I was so shocked and excited!

Now 2.5 years later, she has come back! She wanted to know if I could make her daughter a Minnie Mouse hat. How exciting is this? We will both get to see how far I have come since that first sale. And… not to mention the fact that she came back in the first place 😉 I told her I felt sorry for all the people who paid me for hats when I was first learning to crochet. She was quick to tell me they still love and admire the hat, but that her beautiful daughter has simply outgrown it. So here we go!

This pattern is designed for 3-5 year olds.

Double the fun - Double the Flop - Free Crochet Pattern Adult-Child-TOddler

Late Sunday night, I had an idea for a new way to make a double pom pom beanie. I stayed up til early morning writing out my idea so I wouldn't forget. Last night I finally had the chance to test it out! My daughter loves it! She requested I use a bunch of different pinks for the pom poms… she even picked out what pinks in my scrap yarn bin. Although I call this free pattern the “Double The Fun – Double The Flop” It could VERY easily be turned into a puppy hat. The flaps are PERFECT for puppy ears. My daughter calls this new hat her “Pink Poodle Hat” 😀 This free pattern is available in Adult, Child, and Toddler sizes. Have fun!!

Ready for Spring Beanie – Child Size Crochet Pattern

February 14, 2014 By stitch11 6 Comments

Ready For Spring Crochet Child Size Beanie - Free Pattern

With this beanie you will be starting from the bottom of the hat and crocheting up towards the crown. The band that goes around the bottom of the hat has a fantastic stretch that makes it so this hat has a PERFECT fit for 3 year old's- teens!
The warm ribbed band also helps your ears avoid the cold winds that can linger towards the end of winter and during the beginning of spring- keeping your ears warm and reducing the risk of ear infections and earaches.
While the weather is changing so quickly… the V stitches will help your head stay warm- but also helps it from getting too hot!
The beautiful rose pattern is one I found by Petals to Picots. The free pattern is simple, unique, and perfect for accessorizing a beanie!

Child Size Pom Pom Beanie

December 15, 2013 By stitch11 50 Comments

This Child Size Pom Pom Beanie crochet pattern uses a mix of front post DC and crossover DC - which makes the hat very stretchy. Although it is designed just for children, it fits the sizes preschooler - teen! #crochet #crochetlove #crochetaddict #crochetpattern #crochethat #ilovecrochet #crochetgifts #crochet365 #addictedtocrochet #yarnaddict #yarnlove.I have been trying to come up with something unique, beautiful, and fun for my 3 nieces. Just as I was starting to panic, the idea of this texturized double pom pom beanie came to mind.

Since you will be using a mix of the front post double crochet and the crossover double crochet, this hat is really stretchy! Although it is designed just for children, it fits the sizes preschooler-teen!  So if you have any doubt in your mind of what to make for someone you love, this hat is a quick, fun, and safe direction to go.

Crochet Beanie Patterns For Men

Crochet Beanie Patterns For Men

Each of these 5 hats were inspired by one of the patterns linked below. I say they are “inspired” because I changed each one to be custom and unique for each person I am gifting them to.
I have discovered a new way I like to edge my beanie's and that is with a Front Post Single Crochet. The FPSC makes the edge of the beanie thicker and stronger (while still leaving the stretch) right where the hat needs to feel the most secure.
