Child Size Fox Hat – free crochet pattern

Child Size Fox Hat - Free Crochet Pattern

If you haven't already made the Fox Tail, you must check the Fox Tail Tutorial out right away! I used the same pet brush to fluff this basic medium weight beanie!  You do not have to fluff the beanie you make, it looked beautiful with clean stitches- My daughter is just asking for a fluffy type of fox costume. As much as I would love to make every piece of her costume with super fluffy yarn… it just isn't practical for me at the moment. Basic medium weight yarn is much easier to buy in the colors I need.
There will be more pieces to my daughters costume. If you want to make sure you never miss a post, make sure you subscribe! You can find the option to subscribe on the right side of this site. Thanks!!

Fox Tail – Free Tutorial – Review

October 15, 2014 By stitch11 Leave a Comment

Fox Tail - Free Tutorial Review

I am so excited to finally start on my daughters Halloween costume. She made it clear to me that I *must* start by making her fox tail first.

A quick post in the Facebook crochet group Yartists led me to this fun free tutorial by I Save A 2 Z. You can view the tutorial HERE.

It took me about three days to complete- but I am not able to sit and work on my projects all day… or I would have been able to finish it in one day.  I did not use a straightener on the yarn. If you choose to use one, I would suggest using it before attaching the yarn to the braid.

We are so thrilled with how beautiful this tail came out! Now to start on another part of her costume. More posts to come!  😀

If you love a beautiful fox, check out the Baby Fox Pattern I tested!

Where's Waldo - free crochet pattern review

A friend of mine asked if I could squeeze in a small project to help her complete her sons Halloween costume. She sent me a link to what she had in mind.

To my surprise, it was a free Where's Waldo crochet hat pattern designed by Repeat Crafter Me! I love all of her designs! Her patterns are always very easy to follow and very true to the size.

I tried this one on my 3 year old and she says it fits perfect.

Pair this hat with a striped shirt and black round glasses and you will have Waldo! Thanks for the pattern Repeat Crafter Me!

Some of you may already know how much my daughter loves Care bears. A few months ago I made her the “Backpack to Care-A-Lot“. Ever since then, she has been begging me to make her a Grumpy Bear. Mr Grumpy has been pushed back on my list for too long! Finally, my most reliable customer came to me requesting one!  Of course this made my daughter happy because I would have to make a few of them during the pattern writing process. 😀  I hope you love this free Grumpy Care bear pattern as much as we do!!

Creepy Skull Slouch – Pattern Review

October 2, 2014 By stitch11 14 Comments

Crochet Skull Hat Pattern

I stumbled upon this amazing Skull Hat pattern by Spider Mambo Designs. You can get the pattern HERE. Be sure to check out her Facebook page HERE too!

I want to start off by letting you know how much I am amazed by this design. I would never have been able to figure out how to make skulls like this.. and Spider Mambo makes it EASY!!!!

I did make a few changes… only to my personal liking. I did not find any reasons to HAVE to make changes. You can follow the pattern to exact and it turn out amazing!  I will say, the size small is more like child size.. but my head is small so I made it into an adult beanie instead of slouch.  If you are wanting the teen-adult slouch, definitely make the size large.
What changes did I make?
-I  started off the Creepy Skull pattern with  a FSC instead of the basic CH.
– I then did a round of FPSC before continuing with the DC directed in the pattern. I do this because I love the snug and stretchy fit that the FSC and FPSC together make.
– After round 14, I decided to go ahead and skip the next few rounds to close the hat a little earlier than the pattern calls for. This makes the size small more beanie than slouchy for my own head.  Doing this, I did the 4 SC like the pattern calls for on round 15. Just not the chains. Then, I finished it off with a long end and wove it back and forth around the stitches, pulled tight to close and wove in my ends.
– I decided to line my hat using fleece from sweatpants that my daughter had outgrown. I followed this awesome tutorial by Playin' Hooky Designs!
– I also added a pom pom using my Secure Pom Pom Tutorial.

Crochet New York Newsboy Hat and Diaper Cover

September 27, 2014 By stitch11 1 Comment

https://stitch11.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/New-York-Newsboy-and-Diaper-Cover.jpg

An old friend of mine contacted me with this New York newsboy hat and diaper cover request.
I used my own (free) >Newborn Newsboy< hat crochet pattern.
Below you will find the N and Y crochet pattern.
The diaper cover can be found at >Crochet by Jennifer's Ravelry account<. It is a paid pattern but well worth those few bucks! She gives plenty of measurements to help you make sure everything is coming out the right gauge. The pattern is well written and simple to follow!
I couldn't be more happy with the outcome of the diaper cover! I have followed a free pattern for one in the past but it didn't turn out as perfect as this one.

Using a 5 MM crochet hook and white Medium/Worsted Weight yarn.

Lean on Me – Free Crochet Infinity Scarf Pattern

September 24, 2014 By stitch11 13 Comments

This pattern features a new and fun technique to crochet a scarf, and it's a great way to learn something new! Pick your favorite yarn color and stitch away with the free pattern below, or get the ad-free printable PDF pattern here!

Lean On Me - Free Infinity Scarf Crochet Pattern by Stitch11

The crochet cowl is the type of pattern that can be designed for warm weather or cold. In this case, you can go either way.

I was playing around with some crochet stitches the other night when I discovered a fun and simple way to make this beautiful scarf. The reason I just *had* to write it out was that I wanted to make sure I remember how to make the leaning rows. Just a simple stitch placement and it all falls into place!

Check out some of the other stitches that you can customize this pattern with in my Crochet Library. I have 45 of the best crochet stitches in this collection and you can check them out and learn them all here for free for 2 days!

Generally, when you crochet a cowl, it's either made in the round or as a rectangle and seamed together – this pattern is the latter of those options. If you enjoy crocheting simple shapes like rectangles, you may want to check out my Crochet Anything with Rectangles class where you'll take the basic shape you already have down pat and turn it into useful, practical, and beautifully professional projects.

Have your first mommy-baby twinning moment with these headbands! The beauty (aside from the cute rose at top) of it, is it's perfect for anyone. The size is easily adjustable, and would look adorable on long hairs, short ones, curly, straight, all of them! The free pattern's below for you to use, or get the ad-free printable PDF patterns here.

Stitch11 Rose and Headband - Free Crochet Pattern

I recently started wearing crochet headbands when I would try to pull off the “Elsa Braid”. Without one, my hair on one side would slowly fall down. It didn't take long before my daughter started begging me to make her headbands also.

Crochet headband sizes can be a little tricky so if you do not know what the measurements are for the person you will be making the headband, check out >>>this<<<  chart. It's by far my favorite! You can also try this crochet headband pattern out with different yarns and hook sizes too to get just the right feel and fit.

Blue Bear Hood – Pattern Review

August 27, 2014 By stitch11 5 Comments

Blue Bear Hood

A few days ago, Niftynnifer posted a new free crochet pattern for her Beautiful Blue Bear Hood. The name for it was so fitting, because it really is BEAUTIFUL!

I wanted so badly to make it… but I didn't have the correct yarn on hand. But like most of us crafters, we find a way! I combined a medium/worsted weight yarn with Fun Fur.  I also had to adjust the ears to be smaller.. because I was running out of the Fun Fur.

The pattern is easy to follow and is written really well! If I make this hat again, I will probably order the yarn that she calls for with the pattern.

Although my Blue Bear Hood isn't nearly as stunning as Niftynnifer's,  it's still beautiful! I thought my gauge was correct, but obviously it is smaller than hers. The good news- my daughter loves it and cannot wait to put it to good use this winter. It is so warm and soft! Perfect for going outdoors during those Arctic Air weather blasts we kept having last winter. So this winter, we are prepared!

Minnie Mouse in Preschool

August 20, 2014 By stitch11 35 Comments

This Minnie Mouse Hat Crochet Pattern is perfect for little ones who are big fans of Miss Minnie Mouse. Fits kids aged 3-5. #crochet #crochetlove #crochethat #crochetaddict #crochetpattern #crochetinspiration #ilovecrochet #crochetgifts #crochet365 #addictedtocrochet #yarnaddict #yarnlove

This Minnie Mouse Hat Crochet Pattern is perfect for little ones who are big fans of Miss Minnie Mouse.

When I was first learning how to crochet, a local mom came to me while shopping in the baby food aisle at Walmart. She told me she LOVED my daughter's hat (first and the only thing I had made at the time) She offered me 20 dollars to make her daughter a hat too! I was so shocked and excited!

Now 2.5 years later, she has come back! She wanted to know if I could make her daughter a Minnie Mouse hat. How exciting is this? We will both get to see how far I have come since that first sale. And… not to mention the fact that she came back in the first place 😉 I told her I felt sorry for all the people who paid me for hats when I was first learning to crochet. She was quick to tell me they still love and admire the hat, but that her beautiful daughter has simply outgrown it. So here we go!

This pattern is designed for 3-5 year olds.

Minnie Mouse Hat Crochet Pattern

Supplies
I/9 – 5.5 mm crochet hook

Finish off and repeat for a total of 4 ears.

Layer 2 ears together and join from one side to the other with the slip stitch. No need to join the bottom, you will do that when attaching it. This will make it a thicker and stronger ear. Attach the ear to the hat and repeat for the other ear. I attached my ears across rounds 2-9.

Now all you need to do is make your Minnie Mouse Bow and attach it in front of your ears.
When I attached my bow, I used black yarn and not only attached the bottom center to the hat, but I also attached it to the ears a little bit.

Free Turtle Pattern – Review

August 16, 2014 By stitch11 1 Comment

Free Turtle Pattern - Review-

I wanted to make my daughter a turtle family.  She has decided that she wants to “collect” them. I am sure she will collect these just like every other animal she can think of. 😉

I searched online for free patterns for a good hour! Once I finally found this cute pattern, I knew it was the one because it was simple enough to be able to make my own adjustments.

To get the different sizes, I just used different yarn weights with the appropriate hook size. I may also try out some bulky yarn tonight!

I did add an additional SC row at the end of the head/neck. I also made tails for the turtles… each one I did differently or I would share with  you how I did them. I love this pattern!!  I can easily finish a turtle in about an hour or two.. depending on how many times I have to be a mom while I am trying to crochet. Haha!

The Bursting Corners Granny Square

August 7, 2014 By stitch11 2 Comments

Bursting Corners - Free crochet square pattern

I had an idea in my head for a new way (for me) to make the corners of a square a little extra fun. This granny square measures four inches. I used medium weight yarn and a 4.25 mm crochet hook. You really can use any yarn or hook of your choice.. the only change it  should have- is that it may come out a different size. This square is solid and would be great for purses!

How to Crochet a Belt

Okay, so yesterday I bought myself a new dress. I tried it on in the dressing room and fell in love. But when I got home it was a different story… I realized the dress was actually a bit big on me and the tiny braided belt that came with it wasn't really helping. Before I cried, I decided to have a go at crocheting a belt! I am so thankful for this crochet talent! It has saved me money so many times!! I decided to write out the belt pattern as I went so I could share it with all of you <3 Enjoy!

How to Crochet a V-Stitch Blanket

July 15, 2014 By stitch11 16 Comments

How to Crochet a V stitch Blanket

The V-Stitch is my go-to stitch when making blankets. It works up quickly and makes large holes. Large holes are great for reducing the risk of SIDS in babies and also great for those who love sticking their toes through their handmade blankets.

This is the 3rd blanket I have made like this.. and I want to explain to you how you can make your own- for any occasion.

You can use any weight of yarn you like depending on the type of blanket you are going for. I love to use worsted weight yarn because it works up quickly.

This is more of a crochet technique than a pattern, but once you’ve played with it with the yarn you want to use for your blanket you can figure out how many stitches you need for the size blanket you want to make and create a totally custom blanket!

Supplies
You can use any yarn and hook that you wish. I usually like to use larger hooks and med-worsted weight yarn. For this blanket I actually used I Love This Yarn and size P 15mm crochet hook.

Your starting FSC
I start my blankets with the Foundation Single Crochet. I learned how to do the FSC through THIS VIDEO by Moogly.

Your number of starting FSC will depend on what size blanket you want. To know how many FSC to start with, you will need to make your FSC in counts of 3 +4. If you decide to start with a Chain instead of FSC, you will just need to make your starting Chain in counts of 3 + 7. Those last 3 will count as your first DC.

Row 1
For the first row you will CH 3 for your first DC. Skip 1 stitch. {DC, CH 1, DC} all into next stitch**Skip 2 FSC, {DC,  CH 1, DC} into the next stitch. Repeat from ** across until you have two stitches left. Skip one stitch. DC into the last stitch.

Every Row after Row 1
For each row you will CH 3 for your first DC. Then you will {DC, CH 1, DC} into each V stitch. Then DC into the last DC. Turn.

Simple Border
For the border I put one Half Double Crochet into each of the FSC. When working up the sides of the blanket, HDC into the side of each DC and top of each DC. When working into the top of the blanket you will HDC into the top of each DC and into the middle of each V stitch. On the corners, I put 3 HDC.

Free Baby Sandal Pattern – Review

July 8, 2014 By stitch11 7 Comments

Free baby sandal pattern

Within minutes after Whistle and Ivy posted her new baby sandal pattern, multiple people were sending me the link and sharing it onto my personal Facebook page. Everyone wanted to know if I could make them. I usually turn people away when it comes to shoes.. because for some reason I dread making things that go on feet.

This free pattern was different though.. it pulled me in the second I seen it. My favorite thing about these adorable sandals is that they are actually made in a way that would secure them onto an infants feet. They appear to be comfy and logical. I have yet to test them out.. but plan on meeting up with the baby tonight or tomorrow to try them on. I will be sure to get a photo and share more of my opinion then.

The baby crochet pattern is written in multiple sizes and is very simple to follow. Whistle and Ivy shares many photos to help you through the pattern steps.  So, if you are in search of a perfect and free baby sandal pattern, this one should be at the top of your list!

You can get the pattern instructions HERE! 😀
