Toddler Kitty Cat Hat

October 12, 2013 By stitch11 8 Comments

Free Toddler Kitty Cat Hat Crochet Pattern

My daughter Ella had many ideas for what she wants to be for Halloween. It all started in spring when she said she wanted to be a bunny for Halloween. She kept this idea until a month ago when it was time to really get started on planning out how to put it together. She quickly bounced around ideas like a “pirate bird” until she settled with the idea of a pink cat. PINK CAT? I thought to myself “How will I pull this off without her looking like the Pink Panther. Last thing I want is to take her to see the neighbors and everyone upset her by calling her a panther 😉 But, after drawing up about 20 cat hats she was really drawn to this one.

I thought I was in the clear once I finished the cat face. She was getting so excited. But then I crocheted ears. The cat looked like it was part fox :O I quickly posted a picture in the Facebook crochet group Yartists to ask for opinions and advice. Everyone was so quick to help me figure out what I did wrong. I slept on the ideas I had going through my head and finally got the cat ears perfected.

I want to add more to this costume idea and I will share with you what I come up with along the way. Until then, save this free Toddler Kitty Cat pattern!

Pumpkin Hat Review

October 2, 2013 By stitch11 4 Comments

Newborn Pumpkin Hat Review

A few days ago I discovered the free “Pumpkin Harvest” hat (written by Cathy Kurtz) through a round up on Moogly. This hat is so beautiful that I had no choice but to make it right away. The fact that the pattern said it was designed for babies 6-12 months made it even more irresistible because I have two babies in the family that are currently in that size.

I do have complaints on the pattern… so I will start with those.

1. On ravelry, the designer listed 5 mm crochet hook as the correct hook to use, but when I loaded the free PDF pattern the actual PDF calls for 4.25 mm crochet hook. I went with my gut and used the 5 mm crochet hook and I am so glad I did!!!
2. The pattern says it is for 6-12 month old babies.. but the hat turned out to be the exact measurements for NEWBORN! But, I am ok with it because my husbands cousin had a baby just a couple weeks ago.
3. The vine ended up looking really thin and LONG… longer than the hat! So I cut the amount of chains to make the vine in half and switch the 2 SC in the vine to rotating 2 and 3 HDC.

How many stars do I rate this hat? 4 silver stars. Yeah yeah, I know, I had so many complaints! BUT the hat turned out so beautiful and it really is the perfect NEWBORN pumpkin hat! And the fact that the designer says this was her first crochet hat pattern…. we gotta give her some credit for that!

Ninja Turtle Mask

August 22, 2013 By stitch11 67 Comments

The Ninja Turtle Mask is in the theme of the popular Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Crochet a number of these in every color for each of your ninjas. #crochet #crochetlove #crochetlife #crochetaddict #crochetpattern #crochetinspiration #ilovecrochet #crochetgifts #crochet365 #addictedtocrochet #yarnloveDuring this last week, I have tried and tested countless crochet masks. My goal was to make 4 ninja masks in the theme of the TMNT. 9 masks later I finally got it! I love the technique of making this mask and am very proud to say I came up with it. Now that I have made so many (using this pattern I have written out for you) I already have many more ideas for masks that I plan to test out in the upcoming weeks. So find a ninja or superhero near you and create them a mask of their own!Crochet Ninja Mask

For the last 6 months, I have been thinking about Halloween daily, trying to come up with the perfect crochet piece for my daughter.  A couple days ago my daughter, Ella, looked at me and pointed at herself while saying “princess.” As I agree “Yes honey, you are a princess.” It dawned on me… the only costume that would be ideal for her this Halloween would have to be a princess. Either that or a poopy diaper. 😉 So here, I share with you this free crochet pattern for a toddler size princess hat with braids and a crown!  Happy Hooking! Also check out the newborn size!
